Forces Virtual Experiment (P7M)
P7 Homework August 30th, 2007You are going to carry out an experiment to find out on which surface a sleigh will travel furthest. You are going to start the sleigh moving with a push. To make sure this is a fair test you will need to have the same size push and the same sleigh each time. You will work through the activity, following the tasks written (and spoken) at the top of the screen. Remember to record the distances travelled (or flags reached) on paper.
When you have completed the activity you can now submit a comment to the Blog explaining why the sleigh travelled further on a particular surface and why it did not travel as far on another surface.
If you are unsure of anything either ask your teacher or leave a comment on the blog. Sleigh ExperimentAll answers are to be posted by Thursday 13th September.P.S. Your comments/posts will only be shown on Friday 7th September. i.e after the due date.

The car travelled past all of the flags when it was given a red light push and ice to travel on. This is because there was a big push and very little friction.

on the ice on the yellow butin is not good and the red buttin is the best
August 31st, 2007 at 2:35 pm
i found out that friction makes someone on ice travel the furthest and someone on carpet the slowest

ice goes faster becase it slides along
September 1st, 2007 at 6:45 pm
Sorry Last one didn’t work

The suface ice was the fastest surface because ice is more slippier than other surfaces thats why the car went so fast.
The surface carpet was the slowest because carpet is made for no slipping so the car did no go as fast as the ice surface.
September 3rd, 2007 at 5:24 pm
The car travelled furthest on the ice as it was the smoothest surface and it travelled slowest on the carpet because the carpet was rough and made it harder for the car to travel on.
September 4th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Ice was the fastest surface.
Carpet was the slowest
The degree of push also helped the sleigh go further.
September 4th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
i found that on ice the sleigh traveled fastest and further and on carpet the sleigh travels the slowest and shorter.
September 4th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
THE SLEIGH WENT FURTHER ON THE ICE AND WENT THE LEAST DISTANCE ON THE CARPET. IT ALSO WAS HELPED TO GO FURTHER BY THE STRONGER PUSH.
September 4th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
The ice made the slay go further and the carpet was the slowest. It was different deppending on how hard you push.

well on the ice if you pall the yellow swith it gose to the bloue flag.
and if you poll it to the bloue swith it gose past the bloue flag
September 4th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
i found out ice has least friction and carpet has the most
September 5th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
ice had the least friction
carpet had the most friction
the push made every surface diffrent
September 5th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Ice went fastest.
Carpet went slowest.
September 6th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
if the sleig is on ice it go’s fast
if its on carpet it go’s slower
September 6th, 2007 at 5:22 pm
The most fricion was the carpet the least was the ice because the carpet got stuck on the first flag and the ice went to the end
September 6th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
I found out that the carpet was the most fricion and the
ice was the least and went the fastest.
September 6th, 2007 at 5:54 pm
The ice had the least friction because it went faster and further than the rest and the carpet had the most friction because it was slower and went a shorter distance.
September 6th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
I found out that if you push a car against ice it will go fastest. If you push a car against the carpet it wont go a very far distance.

Vinyl –
From yellow light car travels to green flag
From red light car travels past blue flag
Wood –
From yellow light car travels to green
From red light car travels to blue flag
Carpet –
From yellow light car fails to reach any flag
From red light car travels to red flag
Ice –
From yellow light car travels to blue flag
From red light car travels past blue flag

Ice went the fastest.
Carpet went the slowest.
The better the push the futher it goes.
